Ilham Aliyev met with the general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has met with the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong.

During the meeting, the Secretary of the Communist Party of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong, said that bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Vietnam were successfully developing and noted that the state visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Vietnam would open a new page in the expansion of these ties.

Indicating that the people of Azerbaijan had made a great contribution to the protection of Vietnam’s independence in the Soviet period, Nguyen Phu Trong spoke about the work done in the area of personnel training. He said the citizens of Vietnam educated in Azerbaijan had contributed a lot to the development of Vietnam’s oil and gas sector.

The general secretary praised the stability and development in Azerbaijan and gave a high assessment to the improving well-being of the Azerbaijani people, which he said was important to the overall development of the country.

President Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijani-Vietnamese relations had a long history and pointed to the successful development of these relations in different areas. The head of state said there was great potential for a further expansion of these relations.

Touching upon the cooperation between political parties, President Ilham Aliyev expressed his confidence that the collaboration between the "New Azerbaijan Party" and the Communist Party of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam would continue to expand.

During the meeting the President of Azerbaijan provided information about the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, which has resulted in the occupation of Azerbaijani territories.

The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
