From President of the United States of America Barack Obama

29 October 2012, 22:10

Dear Mr. President,

I convey to the Muslims of the world my best wishes for a blessed Eid al-Adha and congratulate those who have performed the Hajj and achieved their goals in life. This year, as in previous years, thousands of American Muslims are among the three million pilgrims gathered in Mecca for prayer and worship.

Celebrating Eid al-Adha with their families and friends, Muslims also offer sacrifices to those in need, thus stressing the important role that religious communities play in helping the poor. Throughout the world, Muslim communities have been integrated with other religious beliefs in helping those who have been subjected to a humanitarian disaster and suffer from hunger, disease and conflict.

The Eid al-Adha and Hajj holidays, while serving as a reminder of the common roots with the faith of the Prophet Ibrahim, emphasize shared values of all major religions and the importance of helping those who are most in need.

On behalf of the American people I congratulate you and your people on the occasion of this dear and sacred holiday. Happy holiday!

Sincerely,

Barack Obama
President of the United States of America
