President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has attended the ceremony to mark the supply of drinking water to Hajigabul from the Shirvan-Mugan water system.

The head of state reviewed the stands describing the water supply plan of Hajigabul and the technical parameters of the Shirvan-Mugan water line.

The chairman of the "Azersu" OJSC, Gorkhmaz Huseynov, noted that Hajigabul’s average daily demand for water is 248,000 liters. The reserves of the reservoir are equal to 10,000 cubic meters. The length of the Shirvan-Mugan water supply system is 170 kilometers, while the number of users of this system is 470,000 people. According to the project, the water line will cover 121 villages, including 13 villages of Sabirabad District. The length of the Sabirabad-Saatli clustered water supply system is 40 km. According to the project, more than 160,000 residents of 37 villages will be receiving clean drinking water.

It was indicated that considering the development prospects covering a period until 2035, the "Project on the reconstruction of water supply and sewage systems of the city of Hajigabul" is intended for 30,400 people and funded from the state budget. Residents of Hajigabul will be provided with drinking water through the clustered water supply system Shirvan-Mugan, the foundation of which was laid by President Ilham Aliyev on 16 July 2012.

The centralized system of drinking water in the city of Hajigabul was established in the 1970s. At present, this system is not usable. The length of the water network of the city is 25.5 km, while a sewage system did not exist before. According to official statistics, at present the population of Hajigabul is 24,800 people, and about 50 per cent of them do not have centralized water supply. Population receives water on a scheduled basis eight hours a day on average. The rest of the people satisfy their needs on an individual basis.

As part of the new "Project on the reconstruction of water supply and sewage systems of the city of Hajigabul" and in order to supply the city with water in the mode of natural flow, the main line 2.4 km in length has been built. A reservoir with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters is under construction on an elevated location. The city will have a 115-km water distribution network of various diameters and a 105-km sewage network. A total of 30 km of water pipes and 20 km of sewage lines have already been laid. The construction of a 6.7-km section of the sewage header which will be 8.7 km in length has already been completed.

In general, after the completion of the project in 2014, the entire population of the city will have uninterrupted supply of high-quality drinking water. According to the project, a sewage pumping station is to be built in the valley in the eastern part of the city of Hajigabul. Waste water will be collected and redirected to the sewage treatment plant to be built near the Shirvan-Kurdamir highway. After being treated, it will be discharged into Shirvan collector.

President Ilham Aliyev launched the facility supplying drinking water to the city.

Then the President met with the public of Hajigabul District.

Local resident Hafiz Bashirov expressed his gratitude to the President on behalf of the people of Hajigabul for the attention and concern about the implementation of this noble initiative.
