Ilham Aliyev received the head of the CIS mission to observe presidential elections in Azerbaijan, Leonid Slutskiy

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received the head of the CIS mission to observe presidential elections in Azerbaijan and the head of the Russian State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs and Relations with Compatriots, Leonid Slutskiy.

Leonid Slutskiy informed President Ilham Aliyev about the activities of his mission in connection with preparations for the presidential electionsin Azerbaijan. He said the mission had visited different regions of the country and seen that preparations for the elections are organized at a high level. Praising the activities of the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan in this direction, Leonid Slutskiy said that preparatory work was being done in accordance with democratic standards. He noted the importance of the fact that his mission acts in coordination with local and other international organizations.

The head of state expressed his satisfaction with the participation of the Election Observation Mission of the CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly in the presidential elections. President Ilham Aliyev praised the objective and successful activities of the CIS Observation Mission in previous elections andthe fair assessment of the Inter-parliamentary Assembly of the results of the elections which coincided with the will of the Azerbaijani people. Touching upon preparations for the presidential election, President Ilham Aliyev said that observation missionswere actively involved in all stages of preparations in accordance with international standards. Noting that elections are an important milestone in the life of every country, the head of state said that all the necessary conditions were available for a democratic and transparent presidential election. He expressed his hope that the elections would be conducted in accordance with high standards.

The sides also noted that bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Russia were developing successfully in all areas, including the field of inter-parliamentary cooperation, and highlighted the importance of active cooperation between the two countries within the CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly.

The meeting was also attended by the Secretary General of the Council of the CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly, Aleksey Sergeyev.
