His Excellency Mr. llham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan

Dear Mr. President,

I was dismayed to learn of the serious accident which occurred last Friday in the offshore Gunashli oil field, resulting in serious injury and loss of life. On behalf of the EU, I extend my sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims, my concerns for the fate of those missing, and my wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured.
