President Ilham Aliyev has attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a water supply and sewage system of Beylagan.

Construction workers warmly welcomed the head of state.

President Ilham Aliyev reviewed the stands describing the future layout of the building of the Beylagan Water Utility Office, the reconstruction of the water supply and sewage and the site plan.

The chairman of the “Azersu” OJSC, Gorkhmaz Huseynov, said the organization he represents serves only part of Beylagan.

Currently, out of 15,500 residents of Beylagan 7,600 people, or 49 per cent, receive water from the central network. The rest of the population meets their needs individually. The centralized water supply network was established in 1981. Ten artesian wells were used as a source. One part of the city has a 50-km water supply network, an 11.4-km sewage network, two reservoirs with a capacity of 2,000 cubic meters and two pump stations. The city’s waste water is drained into a salt reservoir on the outskirts of the district center without prior treatment. The water and sewage network existing in Beylagan is not operational.

It was noted that the project on the reconstruction of the water supply and sewage system of Beylagan was being implemented through financial support of the Asian Development Bank. Under the project, the water supply and sewage system of the district center will be fully reconstructed and water supplied to the nearby villages of Shafag and Alinazarli. Considering the long-term development plan until 2035, the project is intended to improve the water supply for more than 25,000 residents of Beylagan and two neighboring villages. As part of the first phase of the project, to be implemented in two stages, and in order to ensure sustainable and quality water supply, five artesian wells will be drilled, two reservoirs with a capacity of 500 cubic meters, a pump station, a chlorination plant, a laboratory, 10-km connecting lines between the wells and a water main will be built. The project on the reconstruction of the water supply and sewage system of Beylagan is to create a 77.6-km water supply and a 71-km sewage network in the city and install 3,400 smart card meters. Along with this, two reservoirs and a pump station that are currently in operation will be repaired. The second phase will see the construction of a sewage treatment facility with a daily capacity of 10,000 cubic meters. The project on the reconstruction of the water supply and sewage system of Beylagan is to be completed in 18 months.

The President laid the cornerstone of the facility.

President Ilham Aliyev wished construction workers every success.
